The Unicycle Shed is a community workshop aiming to combat the increasing mental health problems caused by social isolation and inactivity of older, retired, unemployed, those living alone or with time on their hands, by helping them to once again become valued and productive members of our community.
We will encourage our members to maintain an active body and mind by bringing them together in our workshop to undertake meaningful activities in an inclusive, supportive and friendly environment.
Unicycle Shed members and volunteers, depending on their interests and skills, can mentor and share their practical experience with others, learn new skills, pursue personal hobbies, and contribute to mobility-themed and other projects that help the community.
The Unicycle Shed aims to improve the health of those at risk of health issues arising from loneliness and isolation, by providing a friendly, open and inclusive place for individuals to come together with others in the pursuit of personal hobbies, pastimes and shared interests.
The Unicycle Shed will promote and facilitate programs that address mental, physical and emotional health issues, particularly among older men. We aim to obtain and provide relevant information, education and training on related health topics such as first aid training, mental health first aid training, health checks, seminars and presentations by guest speakers.
Promoting the physical & mental health, wellbeing, social inclusion and participation of individuals in the community, particularly among older men and those at risk of health issues arising from loneliness and isolation.
A huge pool of expertise, workplace and trade skills exists among older, retired and unemployed. This knowledge will be used to mentor and pass on skills to others, while learning new skills on projects that help the community.
The Unicycle Shed is developing mobility related special interest groups, with an interest in promoting road-safety, the safe use, maintenance and operation of motorcycles, bicycles, e-bikes and other mobility assistance devices; support environmental sustainability through the restoration, repair, re-use and recycling of items and materials; and undertake charitable activities for the benefit of the broader community.
